“Loving God More”
In early 2014, the Marquam United Methodist Church adopted a definition of what we understand a disciple of Jesus to be:
A Disciple is a Follower of Jesus,
who through relationship to Christ & His People,
comes to value what Jesus does,
demonstrating the actions of unconditionally
Loving God More, Loving People More,
& Loving More People.
We consider that a follower of Jesus who comes to embrace the values Christ held & lived by does so because they are in relationship with the Risen Lord & connected to the Body of Christ. Exposure to Christ in both relationships leads to the acted value of unconditionally:
Loving God More
MARK 12:28 One of the teachers of the law came & heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: `Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart & with all your soul & with all your mind & with all your strength.’”
Worship at Marquam UMC has as our focus the lifting up of the One God known in three persons: Father, Son & Holy Spirit. Our practice is blessing God who richly blesses all people with unconditional love. Our tone is thanksgiving for all the blessings from God which we daily identify. Our style is the enjoyment of God all the time.
As Jesus taught, the Greatest Commandment is unconditionally loving God with everything we are & have. Our commitments, spiritual relationship, intelligence & bodies provide the ways we totally love the God Who is totally committed to those who God calls to trust in divine love shown in the life, death & resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Our Worship begins at 9:30 AM each Sunday during the school year, and at 9:00 through summer vacation. Please join us as we know God & enjoy God forever.
We desire to be persons who live abundantly in Christ, reflecting in our relationships to God, Fellow Disciples & Every Person, the perfect love of Jesus our Lord.
